CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) – A Japanese container transportation and shipping company is launching a direct connection with South Carolina Ports and India.
Ocean Network Express, branded as ONE, will offer a weekly West India North America service at the Port of Charleston.
The first shipping arrival is scheduled for Wednesday at Wando Welch Terminal, according to the South Carolina Ports Authority.
Popular exported goods from India include electronics, clothing and retail goods.
SC Ports President and CEO Barbara Melvin said ONE’s decision to bring the new service to Charleston reinforces the port’s competitiveness.
“Our strategic location in the Southeast provides access to a growing consumer base, and our highly productive operations will support the success of this new service,” she said.
This new service provides a direct connection to U.S. consumers, particularly in the booming Southeast region, and it offers shippers a more efficient option than the U.S. West Coast, according to the South Carolina Ports website.
S.C. Ports offers five weekly services to India, including the new service.
