Loyalist Township has announced the launch of Loyalist Link, a new transit service pilot that aims to enhance transportation options for residents of additional communities in the Township including Bath, Odessa, and the Amherst Island Ferry Terminal in Millhaven.
Starting Monday, Nov. 4, the service will also provide a vital public transportation link to workplaces in the Taylor-Kidd Industrial Park and the Loyalist East Business Park, according to a release from Loyalist Township.
A $192,000 Community Transportation Grant from the Province’s Community Connection Funding through Lennox and Addington County and Provincial Gas Tax funding will support this pilot program, the Township stated. The new transit service will reportedly operate on a fixed route designed to connect locations in Loyalist Township to the City of Kingston via the Gardiners Town Centre in Kingston and to the Cataraqui Town Centre via the Route 10 bus in Amherstview.
According to the release, the pilot program will enable residents to conveniently access essential services and employment opportunities, improving mobility within our community. Users will benefit from the ability to utilize Kingston Transit Fare Passes.
“This pilot program represents a significant step towards improving public transportation accessibility in our communities,” said Loyalist Township Mayor, Jim Hegadorn.
“We are proud to provide this service to connect communities, enhance access to opportunities, and ensure that every person has the mobility they need to thrive.”
The transit service pilot is set to run until December 31, 2025, allowing the Township to evaluate its effectiveness and adjust as necessary to better serve the community’s needs, according to the release.
The Township encourages residents to take advantage of this new transit service, as it “promises to enhance connectivity and foster greater access to regional resources.”
According to the Loyalist Township website, Loyalist Link is a cashless service, and passengers can use Kingston Transit passes to ride the Loyalist Link. The schedule and map are not yet published, but the website (linked below) advises the public to “check back in a couple days.”
