NEW DELHI, Nov 9 (Reuters) – India plans to issue green bonds to fund renewable energy and clean transportation but will not use the proceeds to finance nuclear power, the government said in a statement on Wednesday.
The plan to issue green bonds was announced by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in the 2022/23 budget as a part of overall market borrowing with the intention to use the funds to build green infrastructure.
The government intends to issue 160 billion rupees ($1.93 billion) of green bonds between October and March. (Reporting by Aftab Ahmed and Nikunj Ohri, Editing by Louise Heavens)
