COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) – The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) held a ceremony Wednesday where they renamed a road in West Columbia in honor of a congressman.
The SCDOT Commission voted back in July to change the name of the Columbia Airport Expressway to the Congressman Joe Wilson Expressway. The decision was made to honor Wilson’s service of the Second Congressional District since his election in 2001.
Prior to his election to the U.S. House of Representative, Wilson served as a South Carolina State Senator for 17 years, which included serving as the Chairman of the Senate Transportation Committee.
The ceremony took place at the Columbia Metropolitan Airport in West Columbia.
