If you want Americans to drive EVs, we need charging stations

The recent article “Survey: Nearly half of EV owners plan to switch back to gas-powered car” (Business, June 28) struck a nerve for us.
We just returned from a long weekend to visit friends in the Finger Lakes Region of New York, a 370-mile drive each way from our home in the western suburbs of Boston. We were disappointed and dismayed that electric vehicle charging on the Massachusetts Turnpike remains hit or miss — and mostly miss.
As the article points out, the lack of public EV charging stations was the biggest reason for EV owners’ regrets. Massachusetts, despite a state commitment to decarbonizing transportation, has woefully inadequate EV charging stations on the Pike, the Commonwealth’s most iconic roadway.
