COEUR d’ALENE — When the Boys and Girls Club of Kootenai County needed buses, the Kroc Center jumped in the driver’s seat to help.
“The Kroc recognizes the positive impact of BGC for youth in our community,” Center Director Kip Sharbono said. “It’s because of that impact that we are eager to step in and support them in their mission, and it aligns with our guiding principle to meet unfilled needs in the community.”
More than 40 registered Boys and Girls Club youth have been unable to get to clubs after school due to limited bus drivers at school districts, according to a press release, and the organization hasn’t been able to acquire vehicles to fill the the transportation gap.
Rick Rasmussen, Boys and Girls Club board member, shared the situation with Kroc Center leadership, and the Kroc Center immediately made available up to four 15-passenger vans for the Boys and Girls Club to use throughout the school year. All the Boys and Girls Club has to do is reimburse the Kroc for mileage.
“We are incredibly grateful for the generous support from the Kroc Center,” Boys and Girls Club Executive Director Mark Kuhnhausen said.
Boys and Girls Club is currently using two vans in Coeur d’Alene daily, with the potential for a third in Post Falls.
Kuhnhausen said the move will allow the organization to transport an additional 30 kids to the club after school.
“The Kroc’s dedication to our community and commitment to making a positive impact in the lives of children is recognized and deeply appreciated,” he said.
