GOOSE CREEK, S.C. (WCSC) – The Berkeley, Charleston Dorchester Council of Governments is looking for public feedback on whether more bus transportation should come to the US 52 corridor.
Council leaders say it could help with the significant growth in this area.
If implemented, it would connect North Charleston to Goose Creek to Moncks Corner, specifically, extending from Otranto Road and Rivers Avenue to the Walmart in Moncks Corner.
The council says the other bus service, TriCounty Link, already covers these areas, and with this new study, they’re going to evaluate how it currently works to see if anything should be changed.
People around the area gave a mixed bag of opinions to the idea. Some believe the current systems aren’t used enough as is and this would be a waste of taxpayer dollars. Others, like Moncks Corner resident Tamaria Green, believe it could be beneficial.
“I feel like it would help out a lot of people because there’s a lot of people that don’t have cars,” Green said. “Cars are very expensive. Ubers and Lyfts are very expensive and they’re also not safe.”
Community feedback will be accepted until Nov. 15. Two in-person meetings will happen in October, along with a virtual option:
Public Meeting 1 – Oct. 16, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Train Depot, 100 Behrman St., Moncks Corner To attend virtually, view the details here
