UDOT: Major closures, delays expected in Salt Lake area for utility and bridge work
SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — The Utah Dept. of Transportation is warning drivers to expect delays ahead of road closures this weekend and next week.
The closures are being implemented so UDOT crews can conduct utility work on Bangerter Highway and bridge work on I-15 and SR-201. Here are the closures you can expect:
Bangerter Highway
Starting at 9 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 2, Bangerter Highway will be closed in both directions between 12600 South and 13400 South for utility work.
Northbound lanes of the highway will also be closed from Redwood Rd. to 12600 South.
East-west traffic at the intersections of 12600 South and 13400 South will remain open. UDOT recommends drivers use 12600 South and Redwood Road as alternate routes.
The highway will reopen by 5 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 5, according to UDOT.
“This work is part of UDOT’s decade-long effort to eliminate stoplights on Bangerter Highway by converting intersections into interchanges,” a press release states. “In addition to 13400 South, UDOT is building interchanges at 4700 South, 9800 South and 2700 West.”

I-15 in Salt Lake City
Starting at 11 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 3, through Sunday at noon, northbound I-15 over 800 South will be restricted to two lanes while crews repair the driving surface of the bridge.
The ramp to 600 South (exit 306) will also be closed due to the close proximity of the bridge repairs.
SR-201 at 3200 West
Starting Monday, Aug. 5, crews will begin detouring traffic off SR-201 at 3200 West to prepare to replace the bridge decks.
At 9 p.m. on Monday, all eastbound SR-201 traffic will be diverted to the on- and off-ramps at 3200 West.
The following night — Tuesday, Aug. 6 — all westbound traffic will also be detoured at the exit. These detours will reportedly remain in place for around five months.
All east-west travel under SR-201 at 3200 West will be prohibited. Drivers should expect delays of up to 30 minutes during commute times, UDOT said.
These construction schedules are subject to change due to weather.
