MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – More than $32 million in federal funding will go toward 56 local improvement projects across the state over the next four years, Governor Tony Evers and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation announced on Friday.
These programs are through the WisDOT’s Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP).
Officials said the goal of the program is to help make safer transportation methods for bike and pedestrian trails and “Safe Route to School” initiatives.
Gov. Evers said investing in these other types of transportation methods is crucial for future generations.
“These transportation alternative projects are not only great ways to reduce emissions and provide more alternative transportation options, but they will help connect communities in every corner of Wisconsin and provide families with safer routes to work, school, appointments, and so much more,” Gov. Evers said.
This is among one of many investments that Gov. Evers made during National Clean Energy Week.
Earlier this week, Gov. Evers along with the Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority (WHEDA) announced on Wednesday a new program to help repair and renew older homes across the state.
The More Like Home™ Repair and Renew Loan program will offer low-interest loans between $5,000 and $50,000 to owners of houses more than 40 years old. Officials said homeowners can use the money toward important house repairs like roofing, plumbing and heating.
Then on Thursday, Gov. Evers announced that he would be investing $10 million for 11 projects to improve air quality.
Gov. Evers said protecting the environment and promoting road safety are a part of the puzzle in seeing Wisconsin families succeed.
