PLATTE CITY, Mo. — The Missouri Department of Transportation has closed the Highway 92 bridge over Interstate 29 indefinitely.
The closure comes after a truck hauling a piece of construction equipment hit the bottom of the bridge, causing significant damage.
MoDOT shared photos of the damage Tuesday, showing several concrete girders damaged and reinforcing steel snapped.

The agency stressed drivers should always remember to measure when hauling an oversized load. All MoDOT bridges have a clearance of 15-and-a-half feet unless otherwise noted.
While the bridge is closed indefinitely, the ramps at the I-29 and Highway 92 interchange are still open to right turns only.
MoDOT said the suggested detour is to utilize I-29 to adjacent interchanges at Mexico City Avenue and at Main Street/Route HH.
