NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) – The Berkeley-Charleston-Dorchester Council of Governments is updating a 20-year Rural Long-Range Transportation Plan. The plan addresses long-term transportation issues that impact rural communities in the Tri-County region.
The Rural Long-Range Transportation Plan spans from 2025 to 2045 and has to be updated every five years. That way it can reflect changing conditions and priorities.
“We’re all seeing the pressures of growth and this plan is really trying to see ‘How do we address that to make sure we ensure our region is growing healthy, encouraging economic development, and keeping us competitive as a region?’” said Sarah Cox, Senior Transportation Planner of the Berkeley-Charleston-Dorchester Council of Governments.
The plan will focus on highways, roads, bridges, freight mobility, transit facilities, bike and pedestrian infrastructure and more.
On Dec. 10, the Berkeley-Charleston-Dorchester Council of Governments will host the first of four open houses to aid in the development of the region’s rural Long-Range Transportation Plan in Ravenel.
If you’d like to give your opinion but can’t make it to the meeting, you can take a five to seven-minute survey. It asks questions like the following.
‘What are the major transportation issues that you face in the rural areas of the Berkeley-Charleston-Dorchester region?’
‘Is there any specific road/intersection location(s) that you feel could be improved upon?’
